I’m sitting in the Qantas Business Lounge enjoying more than my fair share of wine and crackers in anticipation of my flight to Melbourne.
I have never been one to celebrate NYE but that all changed when I met a couple of other Aussies at Summer Camp Mars at Malibu in 2017, and we decided to ring in the new year with one another. 2019 is Samantha’s turn to host as her home, a couple of hours from Melbourne, in Victoria.
Looking back over the last 12 months has reminded me of what an odd year it has been. The first 6 months, work wise, were absolutely hectic. Contracts coming to a natural end and major ones beginning has kept us all on our toes. The family business hit 22 years and we have grown.
Personally it was emotional. We lost more family members to cancer and Pat the Dog, my Dad’s best friend crossed the rainbow bridge. Literally the last 2 years have been travelling to and from funerals. It has been horrible to lose so many loved ones. It happened so often I noticed we all rocked up to funerals wearing the exact same outfit as the last one.
The second half of the year I have been on holidays for a good 3 months. I used up my long service leave which was almost 2 months long and December I have also been on holidays again. I am actually tired of flying. I never thought I would say that. I still enjoy the packing of bags and waiting at airport but I think after my horrid flight from Helsinki to Bangkok I have met my years quota for flying, if there is such a thing!
Soon I’ll be in Melbourne where I should meet Melia first and Samantha will pick us up to take us to her home. 2018 ended with these girls and 2019 started with them, and now we repeat it from this year into next year.
I am looking forward to 2020 and what it may bring. I am in the midst of a massive clean-up at home so space at home will not be an issue!
I hope you all have a lovely week and a Happy New Year.
