Life is all about balance. Plain and simple. We all want success and for all areas of our life to be on top of its game. Truth be told, we can have it all, just not at the same time. No matter how hard we try, there is always something within our lives that falls short, and that is not a bad thing. It gives us hope. It gives us something to look forward to and to help us on our journey. But where do we start?
There are 7 areas of empowerment, in no particular order, one needs to look at when setting goals for themselves, whether they be weekly, seasonal or yearly.
1: Financial goals – Is your income greater than your expenses? Can you reduce unimportant items such as streaming services to save some extra money? Has the consumerism beast taken a hold of you?! What does your financial future look like? Any investment opportunities?
2: Career and work – Are you happy with your work? Are you in a safe working environment? Is something missing from your work goals? Is your career on track? Do you want to start your own business?
3: Health – Physical and mental – Do you eat healthy and exercise regularly? Do you keep your body moving so one reduces illness and injury? Do you see a therapist if necessary?
4: Family and Friends – Are these important relationships being maintained and nurtured? Life can get hectic and we can neglect our nearest and dearest. Reach out, make plans, ask if everyone is OK.
5: Spiritual – One needs to feed their soul and set time aside to get in touch with something that is greater than themselves. Whether it be a religious group you are a member of and attend Church, take time out to meditate or embrace with Mother Nature and get outside more often.
6: Intellectual – Keep on learning. Build your knowledge base. Just because you may have finished your formal education does not mean one should ever stop learning. Feed the mind.
7: Personal and Social – Making time for yourself and others is important. Are you spending your time wisely? Do you give back to your local community whether it be through volunteering, donating or helping raise awareness? Maybe you do all those and need to set time aside for yourself which is necessary. It is all about balance.
All these areas tie in with one another. As mentioned at the beginning, you will not be on top of all your goals at once but knowing the areas to work with is a great start in helping you figure out where to begin or what is missing. One should have something to look forward to everyday and our goals, and habits for that matter, help us do that.
